TEMERLOH: Cuepacs has given an assurance to continue fighting for about 20,000 contract civil servants who may lose their jobs in January.
Its president, Datuk Omar Osman, said Cuepacs had sent a letter to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak after the announcement of Budget 2012 and hoped their contracts would be extended by two or three more years.
"At the same time, Cuepacs will seek to meet with certain parties such as the Public Service Department to get the best mechanism on the issue," he told reporters after meeting civil servants here on Saturday.
He said there was a possibility that the contract of contract civil servants, which would expire on Dec 31, might not be renewed.
On another issue, Omar rapped the opposition, which wanted to reduce the number of civil servants if it took over Putrajaya in the coming general election.
He said Cuepacs strongly opposed the opposition's move because it belittled government servants who had contributed to national development.
In a related development, Omar said 1.4 million government servants would soon be enjoying various benefits and incentives through the New Civil Service Remuneration Scheme, which would be implemented next year.
He also said civil servants needed to be prepared mentally and physically and willing to accept the technological changes, in line with the change to the retirement age to 60.
