NILAI: Cuepacs wants the Public Service Department (PSD) to issue a circular on the new salary adjustments under the Malaysian Remuneration System (SSM), at the latest, by end of this month.
Cuepacs president Datuk Omar Osman said the circular should be sent to ministries, departments and agencies to allow them to pay the adjusted salaries by next month.
"The prime minister has announced the salary adjustments of between seven and 13 percent but we are waiting for the circular to allow departments and agencies to calculate the quantum of the new salary.
"As it is, the PSD has yet to issue any circular," he said after delivering a lecture on the service scheme for institutions of higher learning, here Friday.
On March 8, Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak announced the scrapping of the Public Service New Remuneration Scheme (SBPA) and the reintroduction of a much-improved SSM. Omar said if there was a delay in issuing the circular, it would make it difficult for government agencies to calculate the new salary and would result in having to pay high amount arrears in the future.
On the setting up of a commission to carry out a comprehensive study on the country's public service, also announced by the prime minister, Omar said this should also be set up at the latest by end of this month so that it could start convening its sessions by next month.
He said that Cuepacs had paperwork ready from 23 affiliate members, including from the armed forces and police, which it would discuss with the commission.
Omar said Cuepacs hoped that the matter could be resolved in three months after which a new scheme could be introduced to replace the SSM.
