SERDANG: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has announced that 10 Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia will be given to MTUC and Cuepacs to manage in honour of their contributions.
The umbrella union bodies for the private and public sector respectively would be given five stores each but the location has yet to be announced.
The prime minister also paid tribute to the nation's workforce, calling them the backbone of the country whose welfare will not be ignored.
"The reality is that without dedicated workers and their loyalty to the country, we will not be able to achieve the prosperity and development that we have," he said in his speech at the Workers Day gathering here on Saturday.
Also present was Human Resource Minister Datuk seri Dr S. Subramaniam.
Ensuring the welfare of workers, he said, was a win-win situation as it would also increase productivity and revenue for companies.
The celebration themed 'Innovative Workers: The Movers of Transformation', was attended by workers from both the private and public sector.
